Probably the only medicine technique in the world mixing medicines and philosophy, the science of Ayurveda came into existence about 5000 years ago and since then it has been going strong as a perfect and side-effects free alternative to the modern medicine. However, it has lost its charm in the past few years since the world became smaller and people begun to seek shelter in the western medicine practices more. But the array of side effects that comes with the western medicines is in a way compelling people to find their roots back again and opt ayurveda and not only the Indians, the entire world is also opening up to it as well.
If there was one state in India that has practiced the ancient science of Ayurveda religiously for all the centuries that it has existed is Kerala, the god’s very own country. Yes, other than the divine natural beauty of the landscapes, this south Indian state is also home to Ayurveda and people from all over the country and world, for that matter, can be seen coming here in the hundreds of big and small institutions teaching the ancient science of Ayurveda. Kerala has tackled countless invasions and attacks who tried hard to destroy the ancient culture of the state but the vedic science of Ayurveda remained unharmed and as a result, is being practiced in the purest form.
The legendary family of Vaidyas, popularly known as Ashta Vaidyas have blessed the state with immense knowledge of ayurveda treatments and has been proven to be helpful for the local people for many centuries now and however as the times are changing fast, the Ayurvedic scholars are adapting the new techniques along with the older ones and mixing them up to some great results. One other reason for Kerala being home to the Ayurveda in the country is its lush green landscapes and dense forests as some of the most essential herbs that are being used in Ayurveda are available here quite easily. The fact that Kerala is the only state in India which has been practicing the art with the complete dedication more than any other state, we can say that if one wants to reap the complete benefits of Ayurveda as a medicine alternative, or maybe to learn the basics of it, should move to Kerala.
Some cases in which people with deadly diseases were deemed incurable by the Western medicines were cured completely as they chose ayurveda as the preference to cure themselves. The Ayurveda is so ingrained in the culture of Kerala that it has become more of a lifestyle for people there and that is one reason why Kerala is known as the healthiest state in the country. The children are given the basic knowledge of Ayurveda at a very early age and they, consciously and even subconsciously follow the instructions and that makes them lead quite a long and healthy life. In Kerala, Ayurveda was born and will keep flourishing and growing till the end of times.
