Places To Visit

  • Mattupetty Dam

Mattupetty Dam and its reservoir can be reached at by covering distance of 13Km from Munnar. This dam is built between the hill ranges. It is often used for water storage for hydroelectric projects. Nature can be enjoyed at its reservoir. Elephants visit this place in search of this waterhole. This vital source of power ensures that flora and fauna flourishes in the area. The hill town of Munnar makes sure that this dam serves purpose of hydroelectricity while becoming a source of clean water for animals. The dam is situated at the altitude of 1700 meters. The assigned time for visiting Mattupetty Dam is: 9 AM to 11AM and 2 PM to 3:30 PM. At minimal fee of Rs. 2/-, you can enjoy visit to this Dam

  • Pothamedu

The full view of plantations like cardamom, coffee and tea can be witnessed at Pothamedu. The lush green mountains and rolling hills draped with magnificent scenery over here are suitable for trekking and mountain walks. Located in proximity of 6 Km away from Munnar, Pothamedu offers a visual treat to tourists.  Pothamedu is known for its mist clad and green valleys. Breathtaking landscapes can be viewed over here at Pothamedu.

  • Kundala Lake

Situated at about 20 Km drive from Munnar, Kundala Lake is an artificial reservoir. This reservoir is made up of dam clustered between mountain ranges. You can enjoy boating here. The one ride which attains limelight is: Shikara boat ride. Cherry Blossoms can be witnessed over here. Lake Kundala  is well-connected to Munnar, its nearest town.

  • Devikulam

If you are looking for panoramic hill station in Munnar, then, Devikulam is worth visiting. It has strikingly wonderful valleys and beautiful mountains which are soothing. The cool breeze of Devikulam provides an unbelievable trekking experience. There is no entrance fee to visit Devikulam.


How To Reach

By Air

Since, there is no airport of Munnar, you have to de-board flight at Cochin International Airport. After this, cab can be hired to Munnar. If you de-board at Madurai International Airport, you can hire state-run private buses.

By Bus

State-run buses are well-connected from Kerala and Tamil Nadu. If you are planning to travel to Munnar by bus, then, Kerala State run buses can be boarded.

You can either include Munnar with other destinations in Kerala in your Kerala tour package and if you have less number of days, a quick Munnar tour will also be good.
